Registered On or After January 8, 2024
The current Renewal Policy is as follows. Those who registered on or after January 8, 2024 are subject to this policy.
As of January 8, 2024, all candidates applying for registration with the NEB must pay the initial NEB application fee of $780.00. This fee covers NEB registration for a three-year period beginning on the date of payment. To remain active in the program, candidates must renew at the end of the three-year period by paying the $520.00 renewal fee which covers an additional two years of registration. Registration and renewal fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Any fees associated with the NEB process are subject to change. Candidates may renew twice for a total of seven years, during which the entire exam sequence must be completed. Candidates will be notified 60 days prior to their renewal end date by email that further payment is due to remain active in the process.
Files of candidates who do not renew with the NEB will become inactive. An inactive file may be reactivated within two years upon written request by email from the candidate and payment of all past-due renewal fees. Note that the inactive time counts toward the seven-year cycle and it would mean that no additional completion time will be given to candidates with an inactive file. Inactive period(s) cannot be longer than two years from the time of initial registration. Files with two or more years of inactive period(s) will be closed. Future entrance into the NEB process would require a new registration according to guidelines in place at that time.
Candidates enrolled in the NEB exam sequence on or after Jan 1, 2016, must complete all NEB examinations and requirements within seven years of their initial payment for registration in order to successfully complete the certification requirements. Candidates who do not complete the entire NEB exam sequence and requirements within the seven-year period will be required to sign up for a new registration and:
- Submit new language test scores, if applicable. See Language Proficiency Requirement
- Submit all required documents for registration. See Document Checklist
- In a scenario where a candidate has already successfully passed the NAVLE in the past, this candidate will not be required to retake the NAVLE. However, successful completion of the BCSE is required again before becoming eligible for the PSA and the CPE, if re-registering with the NEB.
- Submit payment for the initial three years or registration
Candidates who registered with the NEB at any time prior to January 1, 2016, were given a total of seven years from the date of January 1 2016, to complete their certification requirements regardless of when they first applied to the NEB.
Because of the disruption in availability of exam seats during the COVID-19 pandemic, all active candidates who were registered by March 26, 2022 received a one-time only, two-year extension to complete their NEB exams.
At any time, a candidate wishing to cease participation in the NEB process and wanting to permanently close their file must fill out the NEB File Closure Request on their NEB Candidate portal. Should candidates, who had closed a file, decide to re-register with the NEB, they will have to wait two years, from the date the file was closed, to submit a new registration application.
Registered Before January 8, 2024
Please note that the renewal fee payment policy changed on January 8, 2024. Those registered before January 8, 2024 are subject to the policy below.
As of January 1, 2016, the initial NEB application fee is $500. The initial registration fee covers NEB registration for the first two years. After the initial two year period NEB candidates will have to pay an annual fee of $250 until completion of all NEB exams. If a candidate lets their file expire after two years and does not pay the annual renewal fee of $250 at that point and decides to continue with the exams at a later date, the annual fees that were not paid will be collected retroactively before a candidate is able to resume taking NEB exams. For more information on NEB fees see Schedule of Fees.
Candidates enrolled in the NEB on or after January 1, 2016, will be required to complete all NEB examinations and requirements within seven years of enrolling in the NEB, in order to successfully complete certification requirements. Those candidates who do not complete all NEB examinations and requirements within seven years will be required to start over again while maintaining registration in the program. That is, candidates who do not complete certification requirements within the stipulated seven-year period will be required to:
- Submit new language test scores
- Submit all required documents for registration. See Document Checklist
- In a scenario where a candidate has already successfully passed the NAVLE in the past, this candidate will not be required to retake the NAVLE. However, successful completion of the BCSE is required again before becoming eligible for the PSA and the CPE, if re-registering with the NEB.
This seven-year time limit to complete the NEB program will affect all NEB candidates. However, candidates that registered to the NEB at any time before January 1st, 2016 will get the total of seven years to complete their certification requirements regardless of when they first applied to the NEB.
All candidates working towards completion of certification requirements will be required to maintain registration in the program by paying the required annual fees towards re-registration.
If a candidate doesn't want to continue with the NEB process and want to permanently close their file in order to avoid having to pay renewal fees please use the NEB File Closure Request form in the NEB candidate portal. Should candidates, who had closed a file, decide to re-register with the NEB, they will have to wait two years, from the date the file was closed, to submit a new registration application.
