Guidelines

Please follow the steps below when bringing Pre-approved Items and/or Prior Approval Items to the secure examination area:

  • Bring all items in one clear, re-sealable plastic bag (e.g. Ziploc).
  • Large items, such as medical devices, can be brought without a bag.
  • Remove all packaging, boxes, paper wrappers, labels, and inserts from each item unless they are required for certain medications.
  • Show your items to exam centre staff for inspection.

Pre-approved Items

If you have a need for one or more of these items during your PSA or CPE, you do NOT need to make a request to the NEB for approval.

  • Arm/shoulder sling
  • bandages
  • Cane
  • Cast
  • Catheter
  • Cough drops
  • Crutches
  • Diabetes supplies (with no electronic transmitting capabilities): glucometer, insulin pump, lancet, test strips, sharps container, glucose supplies such as glucose tablets
  • EpiPen®
  • Eye drops
  • Eye patches
  • Face mask
  • Hearing aids (with no electronic transmitting capabilities)
  • Ice packs
  • Inhaler (puffer or pump)
  • Lip balm, chap stick
  • Medicated oral or nasal spray
  • Medication (pills, capsules, lotion)
  • Menstrual hygiene products
  • Nitro spray
  • Nitroglycerin tablets
  • Prescription/reading eyeglasses without case
  • Snacks out of packaging, in a Ziploc bag*
  • Throat lozenges
  • Water, in clear bottle of water with all labels removed*

Prior Approval Items

The personal items listed below require prior approval by NEB by submitting an Accommodation Request Form.

  • Breast pump
  • Hearing aids (with electronic transmitting capabilities)
  • Oxygen tank
  • Pillo/lumbar support
  • Scooter
  • Walker
  • Wheelchair

* Water and Snacks

Candidates are encouraged to eat well before the start of the exam. NEB will not provide water or snacks to candidates unless required in a medical emergency. Please do not bring snacks containing peanuts or any kind of nut, because some people experience nut sensitivities and allergies even when not in direct contact with nuts. However, NEB cannot guarantee a nut-free environment. You may have water and snacks during break times. Consuming water or snacks while completing a station is strictly prohibited.
