CVMA Reinstates DEI Working Group

The CVMA reinstated its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group to help our DEI related capacity. Meetings were held in December 2023 and February 2024.
Members of the group include:
- Dr. Jim Berry (NB)
- Dr. Melodie Chan (AB)
- Dr. Svetlana Ponsin (MB)
- Dr. Charlotte Williams (SK)
- Dr. Kathy Keil (AB)
- Dr. Leann Benedetti (ON)
- Dr. Angela Oakley (AB)
- Dr. Margaret Brown-Bury (NL) (Council Liaison)
- Mr. Joel Neuheimer (Ex-Officio)
The Working Group is currently:
- Compiling a list of resources (e.g. websites, social media presences) to be added to CVMA website.
- Gathering information from provincial veterinary medical associations about what resources exist and which are needed.
- Reviewing how best to update the CVMA’s commitment to DEI (found under the About CVMA section canadianveterinarians.net)
- Seeking to identify resources that help support internationally trained veterinarians.
The efforts of this group help to deliver on CVMA’s second strategic priority, a veterinary profession that enjoys a healthy working environment, and strategic objective 2c, to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in the profession.
