CVMA Attends OVMA Conference & Tradeshow
March 17, 2025
CVMA President, Dr. Tim Arthur, CVMA CEO, Mr. Joel Neuheimer, along with CVMA Ontario Council Representative, Dr. Lorie Gold, and CVMA Manager, Member Services, Ms. Denise, Charron, attended the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) Conference & Tradeshow at the end of January.
The event allowed the CVMA the opportunity to hold an Open House which hosted 33 participants including a mix of members, lapsed members, and non-members. Dr. Arthur spoke to the audience about the CVMA’s non-partisan government relations efforts, including the three key priorities of asking the federal government to:
- ensure there is a robust veterinary workforce through additional investments for projects and veterinary infrastructure.
- invest in the mental health of all veterinary professionals
- and, invest in ways to maintain and strengthen the availability of critical veterinary drugs in the interest of protecting public health and safety, animal health and welfare, and food safety and security.
Dr. Arthur brought attention to our partnership with the Dairy Farmers of Canada, with respect to the third ask.
The CVMA President also highlighted our enhanced mentorship program with the Lincoln Institute of Veterinary Business, the immigration concierge service we provide for members, and our key role in negotiating the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s dog importation regulations last year.
The CVMA also hosted a bilateral meeting with the OVMA which allowed for discussion on models of veterinary practice and the workforce shortage.
We look forward to our continued partnership with the OVMA and future collaboration on issues affecting the veterinary profession.
