The CVMA-SBCV Chapter Continuing Education Committee has sent out a call that they are looking for input on speaker choices for the Fall Conference being held November 3 - 4 at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel in Surrey. We are looking to present a well-rounded program at the conference and members are invited to send their speaker suggestions to the CE Committee Chair, Dr. John Basterfield at jbasterfield@shaw.ca

Speakers have been confirmed for the 41st Annual Delta Equine Seminar. Event organizer Dr. John Twidale advised that Dr. Jack Snyder, U Cal Davis will be presenting on Lameness Diagnosis, New Treatments and Rehabilitation and Dr. Sue MacDonnell, U Penn, New Bolton Center will be presenting on Equine Problem Behaviours. The equine meeting is noted for being a 'must attend' event for practitioners in BC, Alberta and the Pacific Northwest. When asked why the meeting has been so successful for so many years Dr. Twidale commented that "We try to keep the event fresh and relevant to practice. In 41 years we have never booked the same speakers twice and we always send participants home with something they can apply in practice the very next day."

January 9, 2012

A Student Liaison Committee has been formed to reach out to BC students at WCVM. The committee is being chaired by Chapter Director Dr. Sarah Armstrong and includes a student representative at WCVM, Kailee Price. BC veterinary students will be provided with complementary membership in the Chapter while they are at school and a subscription to West Coast Veterinarian magazine. Each issue of the magazine will feature an article about a BC student or student life.

The first Annual Meeting of the CVMA-SBCV Chapter was held in conjunction with the Fall Conference in Surrey, BC. Elected as Directors of the Chapter for 2012 were: President - Dr. Marco Veenis, Vice-President - Dr. George Guernsey, Treasurer - Dr. Rob Ashburner, Directors - Dr. Sarah Armstrong, Dr. Michael Hannigan, Dr. Paul Kennedy, Dr. Al Longair and Dr. Rick Stanley. Over 200 veterinarians and practice managers attended the first Fall Conference organized by the Chapter where they enjoyed the varied CE program, industry tradeshow and the opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues.

Registration for the 2011 CVMA-SBCV Chapter Fall Conference is now open. The conference will be held at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel in Surrey, BC on November 19-20, 2011. The goal of the CVMA-SBCV Chapter is to offer top quality continuing education, close to home and this year's program includes a practice management seminar with keynote speaker Dr. John Tait, a full day of scientific sessions and a Table Top Tradeshow. CVMA and SBCV join forces to serve BC Veterinarians
SBCV Chair, Dr. Marco Veenis, and CVMA President, Dr. Doug Roberts, signed a Memorandum of Understanding today that will form the basis of a new partnership between the two organizations. The new CVMA-SBCV Chapter will provide provincial member services for BC veterinarians while the CVMA will continue to provide national services and programs for BC members.
