The CVMA Position Statements on Animal Welfare Issues deal primarily with the scientific aspects of the humane treatment, welfare and well-being of animals. The ethical, philosophical, and moral concerns surrounding the aniaml welfare issues are given consideration by the CVMA Animal Welfare Committee, but scientific research and data provide the basis for the position statements.

The CVMA General Position Statements on National Issues are developed in response to current major issues of relevance to veterinarians, veterinary clients, and animal health advocates.  They are developed by the CVMA's National Issues Committee to provide guidelines and clarification of the issue to both the veterinarians and the public.

Veterinarians are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the official CVMA position statements and also to bring forward matters of concern for discussion.

The CVMA continuously studies and monitors issues of relevance to the veterinary profession and, in close consultation with the CVMA membership, continues to periodically review and adopt position statements where there is adequate basis to support the statement.
