CVMA at a Glance The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) is the national professional association representing and serving the interests of over 10,000 veterinarians in Canada. The Association is committed to excellence within the veterinary profession and to the well-being of animals. The CVMA focuses on three main priorities: leadership on national issues, the successful practice of veterinary medicine, and animal welfare advocacy. At the heart of the CVMA is its volunteer-driven Council and Committees who provide direction for Association programs and initiatives. Staff members from the CVMA’s national office work closely with these groups to help the Association meet its goals and objectives. The CVMA publishes two journals – the peer-reviewed Canadian Veterinary Journal and the Canadian Journal of Veterinary Research, Canada’s only veterinary research publication. The annual Animal Health Week campaign, the flagship of the CVMA’s public relations efforts, promotes animal health and responsible animal ownership in Canadian communities. In addition, the Association has developed www.animalhealthcare.ca, an interactive Web site for animal owners featuring informative articles, a veterinary clinic directory, animal-themed fun and games for children, and information on careers in animal health. Founded in 1948, the CVMA has been an advocate for veterinarians for more than 60 years. News Releases
