Animal Welfare > Animal Abuse > Recognizing Animal Abuse > Dog Training Practices and Humane Animal Restraint

Until fairly recently, dog training practices were not considered of major concern. This area is now rightly getting more attention. Veterinarians can assist by advocating positive training methods, and discouraging abusive methods.

Some veterinarians have come under criticism for allegedly abusive animal restraint practices. Guidance is available for veterinarians and others on humane and safe physical restraint during routine handling, including aspects like adequate training, chemical restraint, etc.
