Signs of Dog Fighting

  • Wounds in various stages of healing – bite wounds, scratches, abscesses, scars (typically on chest, face and forelegs), old fractures.
  • Ears often cropped very close to the head (sometimes by the owner – there may be abscesses or chronic infection).
  • Dogs often have conditions related to sub-standard care – e.g. external and internal parasites.
  • These dogs are often administered inappropriate antibiotics by owners, so may develop antibiotic resistance.

For further information, see Shelter Medicine. Ed. L Miller and S Zawistowski, 2004, Blackwell Publishing, Chapter 30.
