Celebrate Animal Health with Canadian Veterinarians
It’s a celebration! From October 1st through 7th and beyond, veterinarians and veterinary clinics across Canada will be promoting animal health and responsible animal ownership as part of the 20th annual Animal Health Week (AHW) celebration.
Animal Health Week is a national public awareness campaign organized by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and hosted by veterinarians across Canada. The slogan for AHW 2005, “Your Veterinary Team: Caring for Animals, Caring for You” highlights the important role of the veterinary team in providing quality health care to animals and peace of mind to animal owners.
“Animal Health Week gives the veterinary team an opportunity to show their dedication to the betterment of animal health and to raise awareness of the importance of regular veterinary visits,” says Dr. Troye McPherson, CVMA Member and small animal practitioner in Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia. “Animal health care is a team effort, a team that consists of animal owners, veterinarians, animal health technicians and veterinary support staff.”
During Animal Health Week, many veterinary clinics across Canada will be hosting open houses, holding photo contests, clinic tours and more. Some veterinarians will be visiting school children to talk about animal health care. Animal owners are invited to contact their veterinary clinic and to consult local newspapers to become informed of AHW events taking place in their community.
The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association is the national body representing and serving the interests of the veterinary profession in Canada. Since 1985, the CVMA and Canadian veterinarians have been observing Animal Health Week. The goal of this annual campaign is to promote animal health and responsible animal ownership within Canadian communities.
